Personal
Dr. Dana Reiss was born into an Army family in Fairfax, Va., and quickly moved to Georgia and then Frankfurt, Germany, where her family spent six years. At the age of 10, she returned to Georgia, where her father retired from the U.S. Army.

Dr. Reiss matriculated at Emory University in 1986 on a National Merit Scholarship, earning a bachelor of science degree in both Biology and Psychology. She then received her medical education at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, where she graduated in the top third of her class.

The next stop for Dr. Reiss was Mobile, Ala., where she completed a five-year surgical residency. She was responsible for pre- and post-operative patient care, emergency patient care, resident and medical student teaching, as well as her operating room responsibilities. In Alabama, she was involved with the full range of general surgical problems.

Following her residency, Dr. Reiss went to the University of Virginia to do a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery. While there, she also functioned in the role of general surgery attending physician, where she dealt with many patients while teaching residents and students. She also performed a wide variety of procedures laparoscopically, including anti-reflux surgery, splenectomy, colon surgery, gastric bypass surgery, adrenal surgery, and complicated surgery on the bile ducts. Her association with the University of Virginia led her to Dr. John Pilcher, an alumnus of UVA and a fellow surgeon at SCOSA. Once acquainted with Dr. Pilcher and his colleague, Dr. Paul Selinkoff, Dr. Reiss felt the opportunity to practice with these two fine surgeons in San Antonio was not to be missed.

An Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Reiss is currently on staff at Methodist Health Systems, Santa Rosa Northwest, and St. Luke's Baptist Hospital. She is also a member of SAGES and the Southeastern Surgical Society.
